Fund-raising in a direct sales business can not only be very profitable, but can also increase your customer base dramatically!
There are so many organizations today looking to hold fundraisers with companies that offer quality service and outstanding products that sell!
A common mistake consultants tend to make, is not talking about fundraisers. A great way to get started with fund-raising is simply offering the idea at your shows! Many direct sales reps never mention Fund-raising during shows, however you never know who is at that show that may be in need of your fund-raising services you can offer or that may know someone looking to hold a fundraiser!
The great part about offering fundraisers, is the opportunity to grow your customer based and the income fundraisers can produce with little work on the consultants end.
Here are a few tips on finding organizations in need of fund-raising and tips on increasing sales with fundraisers!
1- Always offer the fundraiser opportunity at your shows! Even if it is just a catalog party, give your hostess a flier explaining the benefits.
2- Contact your local day care centers, animal shelters, police association, little league sports coaches and tell them about the fundraiser opportunity you can offer them along with the benefits of choosing your company over others. When you make direct contact with each person or organization, you show your interests in helping them. If you do not feel comfortable calling them, create a fundraiser packet and mail it to each organization. This way they can contact you when they are in need of fund-raising.
3- Cut into your profits a bit and offer them more! Let’s say your company offers candle fundraisers and will give $2 per candle for each candle sold. If you can offer an additional .50 on each candle sold, this sounds like a huge difference in fund-raising dollars! This can actually make a large difference in the amount the fundraiser will give the organization, however will also help you increase your chances to help this organization other another company! Fundraiser Coordinators are normally on the hunt for companies offering the most benefits, so make your stand out!
4- Once you gain a fundraiser and it is over, instead of giving the items to the organization to deliver, you deliver them! This will give you a chance to make contact with each person who placed an order. Allowing you the opportunity to tell each person about your company and handing out business cards, and catalogs. Just make sure that each customer provides a name, address, and phone number so that you may contact them to arrange delivery.
If you are unsure of who you should contact here is a list of some places to help you get started!

Candle fundraiser sales are very profitable
What exactly is a candle fundraiser? Candle fundraisers are your basic order taker fund raiser, but you need to do more than just show pictures of candles. Showing samples will allow customers to sample the fragrances and dramatically boost your candle fundraiser’s results.
The basic concept is the same as all order taker fundraisers. You equip your sellers with a brochure, an order form, and a basic sales script. The only difference is carrying some samples of the best sellers.
The brochure describes the various candle selections and provides details on color, aroma, size, shape, weight, and container type. Price points are usually on the order form itself.
Unlike candy or cookie dough, it’s easy for your sellers to carry samples. Their non-perishable nature makes them a great fit for week long sales efforts.
One of the great things about candle fundraisers is how the aroma of your samples makes the selling process so much easier. Most buyers will sniff several samples and imagine how the candles will fill their homes with their pleasant smells.
Perennial favorites are french vanilla, bayberry, apple, pumpkin spice, apple cinnamon, holiday pine, melon burst, and citrus breeze.
Candle sizes range from small two-ounce votive candles all the way up to giant three-pound ball or bell-shaped versions with multiple wicks.
Several fundraising companies have candles in decorative shapes like various fruits, animals, wizards, trees, and figurines. In addition, large rectangles, cylinders, half-rounds, and tapers are always readily available.
Some companies also offer container-based candles which burn more slowly and safely. They also avoid messy cleanup problems. Popular styles are Mason jars, jars with handles, jars with screw tops, and square glass containers.
Profit Tips For Your Next Candle Fundraiser
A candle fundraiser is a great way for school clubs, cheer squads, or scout groups to raise funds because the unit price is high and most sales are for multiple units. Here’s how you can maximize your candle fundraising profits.
Provide samples
Believe it or not, using sample candles doubles the sales volume. Why? Because people can see, touch, and most importantly, smell the candles.
The fragrance is what sells the product and that doesn’t come through on the brochures. Not until they start providing scratch & sniff versions anyway!
Order at least two sample candles for each seller. Get a variety of all the popular fragrances in the main styles. Your fundraising company can easily tell you which ones those are and you can use the samples to fill orders, so you’re not wasting any money.
