If you want to enter the home-based business arena to generate a cash cow the direct sales model is the most lucrative, but there are considerable inequalities in the compensation plans. Instantaneous commission checks are normally larger than in network marketing, so if you desire fast money, direct sales could be your big ticket.

Direct sales isn’t a get rich quick form of business but the numbers don’t lie; it’s an extremely profitable and truly lucrative business entity once you’re established.

In direct sales you receive payment from a new affiliate instantly and then the company receives their portion. The sale of products or services takes place through person-to-person contact or through an online business medium away from a retail location with no middleman involved.

If you think about it, selling is an outlandish endeavor because achieving financial success in this industry is contingent upon your own individual efforts. Some consider sales to be an art in the category of persuasion.

It’s estimated that if you bring up the term “selling” over 95% of people will have an instant negative connotation associated with the term appear in their mind. Where is the negativity coming from? When you make a sale all you’re doing is solving a problem or enhancing an existing business model for a potential buyer.

In direct sales if you convey your liveliness and warmth whenever you talk about your opportunity, people will want to buy from you and be a part of what you have to offer. The reason why the direct selling industry continues to develop is because word-of-mouth advertising flat out works.

Starting a direct-selling business and developing a team not only means fantastic money, but it develops priceless leadership skills that countless people can leverage into other areas of their lives. It’s one of those opportunities that centers around how intelligently you can work, not on the number of hours you work.

It’s a known fact that, in the direct sales industry, if you’re out of bookings you’re out of business. Most people who book a party plan presentation do so at the presentation. You need to encourage people to book by providing them reasons throughout your demonstration. The easiest way to get bookings is to be “up” for your presentation. Here’s some other ideas.

1. The top reasons people book is to have fun and learn something. Make your presentation fun and interesting.

2. Talk about your hostess plan at least three times during your presentation. This can be as simple as holding up a product and saying, “You can get this free by having a party.”

3. Offer an incentive such as a low priced, but popular items, free just for booking today. They get the item when the hold their show.

4. Imply a busy schedule even if this is the last presentation on your calendar. Subconsciously the guests are thinking, “If no one else wants to book with her there must be something wrong.”

5. Coach your hostess to get bookings for you. Offer her an incentive to have two outside bookings before you get to her house.

6. Talk about the different types of presentations you do. If they don’t know you do bridal shows you’ll never book one.

7. Offer a show in a bag. If you need bookings tell guests they’re at the end of a special you’re having. If they book tonight for next week, you’ll bring the dessert and the paper products. All they have to do is invite the guests.

8. Have an inexpensive item to receive immediately if they book that night.

9. Offer a higher priced item for free for the first person who books.

10. Ask your former hostess, who’s a guest at this show, if she remembers what she received at her show. You need to have her show information with you because she won’t remember. Don’t just say the items she received, actually put them together in one spot. Then give the numbers. “Lisa received $250 worth of products but because she was the hostess with ten buying guests she paid only $23.” End by saying, “Lisa, was it worth your time and effort to have a show?” I’ve never had a former hostess say no.

Use one, a few, or all of these ideas to fill your calendar. Happy booking!

Did you know that you will have the most success scheduling a party when the party will take place within the next two weeks? Why is this? Quite simply, life interferes!

Of course, there are always exceptions to the rules. A party might be planned in conjunction with a kid’s night out with Grandma, or when an ex-husband has the kids for his one weekend a month. Or it might be planned in conjunction with a baby or wedding shower, depending on what products you sell.

If you are booking a party any more than two weeks in advance, take the time and make a follow-up call each week. This will prevent those “Oh, I forgot” cancellations. You can structure the call so it sounds as though you have a legitimate reason for calling (“I just found out what the hostess gift for next month is, so I wanted to let you know”, or “I just wanted to check and see if you need more order sheets / invites / etc).

5 tips to remember when booking your direct sales home party:

1. Never hold a show outside a 2-3 week window-if the party is more than 3 weeks away when they say yes, they have time re-think, get talked out of, or change their minds. In some cases it’s ok, but for the most part, if they want more than 2 weeks, you’ll just be scheduling a cancellation.

2. Get a guest list within 48 hours of dating the party. And, then mail out the invites ASAP. Guests should be getting their invites about 10-12 days before the party-don’t worry that they’ll be getting them too soon–your host should be phoning those guests a couple of days before to remind them anyway. (Hint-it’s a lot tougher to cancel out on a commitment if the invites have gone out) And, be sure that your host gets an invite too. I always mailed out the hosts invite after I mailed out her guests-this way, she knows that by the time she gets hers, everyone else has gotten theirs.

Online parties can be a successful and fun way to build your home business. These parties are similar to home parties except that you do not have to pay a small fortune for refreshments and snacks! ;-)

You can have your party in a free or low cost chat room or you can have your party via email. Be sure and create a relaxed and fun atmosphere for your guests. We would recommend a chat room.

You can either recruit someone to host the party for you or you can be the host. There is also something called “Mystery Host Party”. This is where you draw or randomly select a guest to be the “Mystery Host” and receive the host benefits.

You will need to schedule your party. We have found that during the week is best unless it is winter. Then weekends can be a good time also. Give yourself plenty of time to plan and send out invitations.

Plan your specials. You definitely want to have some items on special. Maybe some that tie in with your theme, if you have one. Give a 25% discount on certain items, but make sure you leave enough profit as well. You could also offer a small free gift with all orders over $25, for example.

When it is time to send out the invites, email groups and message boards can be a great place to start. Send out the invitations (follow guidelines on this). Also invite friends, neighbors, co-workers. Let everyone know they can bring a guest or two or however many you like.

Have each guest introduce themselves and tell (type) a little about themselves. This will help bring the guests together.

You also want to make sure you have some fun and interesting games to play. And of course, for each game you will need prizes. Below are some popular party games:

*Scavenger Hunt – make a list of several items and instruct your guests to find them on your site.

*Word Scramble – Pick about 10 words from your site and see who can get them all right in the least amount of time. Let your guests know the words come from your site/business.

*Trivia Questions – Write up a list of questions about your site/business.

There are many more fun, exciting games to play at your party! Make up your own if you like as well.

You, of course, will also want to spend some time presenting your products. If you offer home decor items, share some tips and ideas on home decorating with your products. If you offer aromatherapy items, explain the benefits of your products. Make your presentation fun, informative and relaxed. Let the quests ask questions and always be clear and candid with your answers.

The idea here is to relax, have fun, show your items and make new contacts/customers. If your guests have a good time and enjoy themselves, they will sure to come back to your next party! ;-)
